Upstarts
from Cagayan de Oro barge into world 10ball R32
October 2, 2008
MANILA, Philippines
– A pair of unfamiliar Filipino pool players advanced
into the round of 32 in the World Pool Association World
10-Ball Championships Thursday at the Philippine International
Convention Center.
Demosthenes Pulpul narrowly defeated
world women’s champion Jasmin Ouschan of Austria
9-8, and Leonardo Didal came away with a 9-5 win against
Zhang Shu-Chun of China in the afternoon session to
become the first local players to bounce their Round
One opponents.
Pulpul was ready to pack his cue sticks
after Ouschan set herself up for a run-out on the hill.
But the lady cue artist muffed what could have been
the game-winner on the no.5. Pulpul took advantage of
the miscue to live another round.
