bets top qualifiers, earn World 10-Ball slots

MANILA, Philippines – Taiwan’s Chang Pei
Wei and Chang Yu Lung made it to the main draw of the
WPA World 10-Ball Championship after topping their qualifying
events at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City.
Pei Wei and Yu Lung were unbeaten in six matches to
earn spots in the tournament, which starts on September
29 at the Philippine International Convention Center.
Pei Wei, runner-up to Alex Pagulayan during the 2004
World 9-Ball Championship, posted a 9-6 win in his last
match against 1997 Jakarta Southeast Asian Games gold
medalist Victor Arpilleda to top the Qualifier 1.
Before his match against Arpilleda, Pei Wei downed
Roland Dela Cruz, 7-4; Richard Alinsub, 7-3; and scored
consecutive 7-5 decisions against Hsu Chun-yang and
Chu Hung-ming.
On the other hand, Yu Lung outlasted compatriot Lee
Po Hsien, 9-4, in his last match to top Qualifier 2.
Before that win against Lee, Yu Lung defeated Jean
Berille, 7-3; Alfred Triestanto, 7-4; Jim Burt, 7-4;
Leonardo Didal, 7-5; and Lu Hui Chan, 7-6. –
