Last November, an apparently distraught Rigor de Padua seized a bus carrying his co-workers at the Saudi Catering from the company compound in Jeddah and drove erratically along the busy Al Haramain thoroughfare.

The bus hit at least four other vehicles along the road before slamming into a white Toyota Corolla, killing the car’s three passengers instantly — a mother and her two daughters in their 20s.

Co-workers of De Padua were earlier reported saying he was depressed when he learned that his wife, with whom he has a daughter, had left him. To make matters worse, his supervisor supposedly threatened to send him home if he failed to get a driver’s license.
The news became a major headline in various news papers in Saudi Arabia and even sparked debates on whether or not to give migrant workers driving licenses. It also prompted the Philippine government to review its pre-departure psychological testing on aspiring overseas Filipino workers.
